Obituary for Ethelene Britton
Ethelene Britton, 84, of Miami, Texas passed away on February 15, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on October 29, 1936 in Greer County, Oklahoma to the late Tom and Hattie Chisum Weaver. Ethelene lived all her life in Oklahoma and Texas, except for a few months when she lived in Kentucky. She was a graduate of Reed High School with the class of 1956, where she served as Vice President of her class, both her junior and senior years. She was an active member of the 4-H Club. Ethelene was married to her high school sweetheart, Bill Britton, on August 25, 1957. The couple were blessed with two beautiful daughters.
While living in Canadian, Texas, Ethelene was a member of the Hobby Club, and served as president of the club for two years. She was also a member of the Jay-Cee Etts, the Home Demonstrations in the areas where she lived. She loved being a homemaker and sewing and baking for her family. Ethelene enjoyed ceramics, and after retirement, took oil painting classes while living in Quanah, Texas. Ethelene was also a DJ at the K.O.L.J. radio station, a caregiver, and participated in the Relays for Life Cancer Crusaders. After twenty-six years of service, Ethelene retired from the Vernon State Hospital, which is now, North Texas State Hospital. She loved people and had many friends. She loved her church family at the Mangum Church of God. After living in Quanah for thirty-plus years, she returned to Mangum in 2006 to help care for her sister after she was stricken with a stroke.
Left to honor her memory are her daughters, Diana Brown and husband Richard of Amarillo, Texas and Dottie Britton of Childress, Texas; Grandchildren, Sean Crouch and wife Courtney, Trevan Crouch, Brandon Brown and wife Alyssia, Sarah Booth, Erica Moody and husband Brandon, and Carlee Dickerson; Great grandkids, Christina, Jason, Zachary, Sophie, Wyatt, Emma and Eleanor, Iva, Keiden, Kamden and Khloe.
Ethelene is preceded in death by her parents; Sister, Marie Scalf; Brothers, Edgar “Ed” Weaver and Paul Weaver; Grandson, Morgan Dickerson; Constant companion for nine years, Kinsey St. Claus, a German Rottweiler, and a very special friend Eddy Wayne Johnson.
