Martha Estelle Weaver, age 84, of Mangum, passed away early Friday morning, August 8, 2014, at her residence, in Mangum.
Mrs. Weaver was born in Harmon County, Oklahoma on March 2, 1930, to Orus Dodson and Alice Doyle (Kendrix) Gambill. Attending Reed School, Estelle grew up in the Jay Buckle community, with the Weaver family as neighbors. On April 5, 1947, Estelle married the love of her life, Ed Weaver, and they spent the next fifty-nine wonderful years together before his death on August 6, 2006. In 1957, Estelle and her sister, Ruth, began driving to Lawton for cosmetology school. Nine months later they graduated and began a fifty-three year career of serving others as professional beauticians. Their first location was in the back of Samâ€™s CafÃ© and later in the Masonic building where she retired do to her health. A strong Christian Business woman, Estelle was also a successful real estate broker and agent for many years. Estelle was very civic minded and served her community in many ways. Very active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Estelle served as the State President of the American Legion Auxiliary, in 1990. Estelle was passionate about Girls State and always saw that Greer County was well represented by the chosen young ladies. A long-time devoted member of the Mangum First Baptist Church, Estelle was also a member of the Reed Alumni Association and an Honorary Member of the Mangum Future Farmers of America Chapter.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed Weaver, a half-brother, John Gambill and a half-sister, Velma Newman, she is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Hooley of Norman; one granddaughter, Cheryl Coffey and husband, Wade, of Stillwater; three great grandchildren, Tyler Jenkins of Mangum, Laramie Coffey of Stillwater and Wyatt Coffey of Stillwater; four sisters and three brothers, Ruth Morris and husband Neil of Mangum, Levi Gambill and wife June of Mangum, Carl Ray Gambill and wife Mary Ruth of Mangum, Gordon Gambill and wife Peggy of Altus, Lois McDonald and husband Ralph of Mangum, Doris Kennedy of Mangum and Lil Wilson and husband Henry of Mangum; a special niece, Susan Kyle of Mangum along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Estelle Weaver will be at 10 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2014, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Jan Ivan Oden and Pastor Shawn Johnson officiating. Estelle will be laid to rest by her beloved Ed, at the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m.
