Obituary for Ernest Orvill Miranda
Ernest Orville Miranda, 91, of Altus, formerly of Gould, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, April 7, at Magnolia Creek in Altus, Oklahoma.
Ernest was born September 25, 1928 to James and Hattie Oakley (Mathis) Miranda in Wheeles, Oklahoma.
He was in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 stationed in Germany. He married Edith Juanice Bridges on November 21, 1953, in Fort Worth, Texas.
He worked for the Gould School system as a bus mechanic and janitor and in 1964 he opened Miranda Garage and he later built on a service station. .
He later operated three service stations in Hollis; Campbell Corner, Busy Corner, the old Dx Station, and a station in Gould called Miranda Garage. In 1979 he opened Miranda Garage in Altus, Oklahoma and was active in the day to day business until November 2019.
Ernest was a member of the Altus Church of the Nazarene on July 10, 2016 he was given the distinguished service awards for many years of faithful service. He never met a stranger and would help anyone who needed it. He enjoyed playing ball with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and going to their games.
Ernest is survived by Keith Miranda and wife Cora of Gould, Oklahoma, Gregg Miranda and wife Becky of Alva. Grandchildren; Erick ,and wife Jessica Miranda of Blair, Oklahoma, Jason Miranda of Gould, Oklahoma, Tanner Miranda of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Vanessa Kopf of Kiowa, Kansas, Greatgrandchildren, Hunter Miranda, RyLee Miranda, Macy Miranda, all of Blair, Oklahoma. Colton Kopf of Kiowa, Kansas, Allyson Annis, of Altus, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Oakley Miranda, wife of forty seven years Edith Miranda, four brothers; Charles and Ann, Odell, and Ada Lou, Darrel and Joyce, and Jerry Dewayne, one sister Alda Bea and JR. McCarver. and one grandson in law Alex Kopf.
In lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Church of the Nazarene of Altus, Oklahoma or the American cancer society.
A private family graveside service has been held at Fairmount Cemetery, a public memorial service will be held at a later date.
Services are under the direction Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
