Obituary for Emory Glen Braker
GLEN BRAKER

Emory Glen Braker was born November 5, 1937 in Olustee, Oklahoma. Glen was the youngest child of Duel and Mabel (Myers) Braker.

The Braker Family made their home southeast of Eldorado. Glen attended Eldorado Schools and was a 1956 graduate of EHS, where he actively participated in sports, 4H and FFA.

Glen and Betty Wilson were married on May 23, 1959 in Eldorado, OK. To this union was born Randy Joe, Wendy Gay and Jimmy Craig. Later the family was completed by Alyson Jon, Rebecca Lynn and April Dawn.

Growing up in southwestern Jackson County was a source of pride to Glen. He loved Eldorado and was an avid supporter of Eldorado Schools. Glen believed that the school is the foundation on which this community stands.

Braker actively mentored to the youth of the area by donating show animals, helping with the feeding and teaching youngsters how to care for their projects. Eldorado 4H and FFA were two of his passions.

A sports enthusiast, the Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys and the L.A. Lakers were his teams. He was especially happy when his kids and grandkids were there to cheer them on.

Glen had a passion for making others happy one of the ways he obtained that joy was from cooking. He and his cowboy buddies have served this area thousands of pounds of delicious barbeque.

He supported his family by working in the oil fields, farming, ranching, trucking, race horses, custom combining and various other self owned businesses. Glen retired in 2008 from Jackson County, District 3; his latest business venture was "That Little Place in Eldorado".

Glen was active with the Eldorado Riding Club, the Quanah Riding Club and the Jackson County Riding Club. He had recently refurbished one of his buggies and acquired another. He loved to show them off at the local parades.

Baptized in 1952, Glen was a member of the Eldorado Church of Christ and also enjoyed attending worship services at SouthWest Cowboy Church in Altus.

Glen was diagnosed on May 18, 2009 with pancreatic cancer that had spread to his liver. In the weeks following, he had undergone chemotherapy. Determined to fight for the life he loved and the arrival of his first two great grandchildren, he succumbed to his illness Sunday, July 5, 2009 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Glen leaves behind the broken hearts of those who adored him, his wife, Joan, of the home; Randy Joe Braker, Eldorado and his children, Chad and Celeste Braker, Pitchfork Ranch, Guthrie, TX and Grant (who is in Kuwait) and Samantha Braker, Altus; Wendy and Steve Williams and daughters, Jonna and Michele, Quanah, TX; Jimmy Braker and children, Craig and Kennedy, Quanah, TX; Rebecca and Haden Braziel and daughters, Konner and Bailey, Quanah, TX; Alyson Braker and sons, Marcus and Mayson Leija, Eldorado; April and Buddy Altom and Mykenzie, Altus; stepson, Trevin Gillam, Eldorado; his former wife, Betty Braker, Eldorado; sister, Venita Jo (Braker) and Murel Smith, Douglas, AZ; brother, Dr. Clifton (Pete) and Sherry Braker, West Fork, AR; his aunt Eula (Braker) Williams, Eldorado and two loving puppies, Mindy and Rendie of the home.
