Obituary for Emma M. Henderson Donnell
Emma M. Henderson Donnell was born December 29, 1925 in Wellington, Texas to Rev. E.L. and Beulah Cobbs Henderson. Emma attended Wellington, Texas and Mangum, Oklahoma public schools. She spent her life as a housekeeper for several families in Altus until her health began to fail her.
"Grandma" loved attending Altus Schools and City Recreation sporting events. Other community involvement included Den Mother for the Boy Scouts, a member of the Southwest enterprises (Tumbleweed Work Center) Board of Directors, and a volunteer of the March of Dimes.
"Mother Donnell" accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at an early age and served in many positions in the New Hope District, New Hope Baptist Church and until June 2002 served faithfully at the Macedonia Baptist Church. Some of the positions she held were president of the Women's Auxiliary, member and secretary of the choir, Church secretary, young women's advisor, usher, Sunday School secretary and Assistant Superintendent and fellowship secretary. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 37. She always encouraged those she came in contact with to get their own lives in order and don't try to run the lives of others.
Emma Henderson Donnell married Tommie Donnell, Jr. January 3, 1958 in Altus, Oklahoma. To this union, 2 children were born, Ella Mae and Linda Marie.
Emma departed this life on Wednesday, February 26, 2003. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Kathy Miller, brother, Robert Epperson, and daughter, Linda.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 45 years, Tommie Donnell; daughter, Ella Lambey and husband Phil of Springdale, Arkansas; sisters, Dorothy West of Altus, Oklahoma; Ella Linbarger, Los Angeles, California; Lorene Ervin and husband Henry of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Betty Jowers and husband Al of Denver, Colorado; Helen Biggers, of Denver Colorado; Betty Sanders and husband Sam of Roswell, New Mexico; Margaret Minor of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and the pride of her heart, grandchildren, Stacee and PJ Lambey. She also leaves 2 stepdaughters, Judy Vann and husband, Richardof Tulsa, Oklahoma along with their children.
