Ella Mildred N. Murrell
Ella Mildred N. Murrell died Sunday, November 19, 1995. Ella was born February 11, 1919 in Altus, Oklahoma to India and Marvin Norwood. She was a graduate of Altus High School, Altus Jr. College and a 1973 graduate of Cameron College.
Mrs Murrell was the Commanding Officer's Personal Secretary at Altus Air Force Base during World War II. She later worked for many years at the Jackson County Courthouse. Her main profession was as a Social Worker with the Department of Human Services. She retired as a Quality Control Administrator in 1983.
Mrs. Murrell joined the First Baptist Church in Altus at the age of 12. She belonged to the Business and Professional Womens' Club, serving as local president. She also served as District President for 2 years and as State Fraternal Secretary for on year. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as District Deputy for 2 years. She was a member of the Altus Rebekah Lodge #75 and served as District Deputy President for one term.
Mrs. Murrell also served several years as a Superintendent of the Adult Department at the Church.
She is survived by one son, Terry Murrell of Houston, Texas and daughter-in-law, Rita Murrell, one grandson, Brad Murrell, and a granddaughter, Shannon Murrell of Pensacola, Florida, one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur Lee and Beverly Norwood of Canyon County, California, two nephews Ray Anderson of Lawton and Mark Anderson of Walters, a foster son, Jackie Hubbard of Altus. Extended family Bobby Morgan and Donald Morgan of Altus.
Mrs Murrell was preceded in death by her husband, Glen in June of 1990, and elder son, Lt. Commander Gene David Murrell in July of 1992; her parents and a sister.
She often said, she had only one talent, and that was to love people, and she tried to do this in many ways.
Services have been scheduled for 10 am Friday, at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Sonny Tims officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. family will receive guests from 6pm until 8 pm, Thursday evening at the Funeral Home.
