Ray Mandrell was born October 21, 1938 in Puducah, Texas. He was the son of William Adrian and Mary Esther (Merchant) Mandrell. He died July 21, 2003 in Altus. He married Mary J.Lowery, April 11, 1973 in Winnemuca, Nevada. She preceded him in death January 11, 1998. He married Shirley Martin, March 13, 2000 in Hereford, Texas.
Ray had been a resident of Altus since January 1981 moving here from Childress, Texas. He was a bus driver for the Altus Public School System before retiring in April of 2000. He served in the US Army for 8 years and was honorably discharaged January 14, 1963, He was a member of the Baptist Church, the American Legion, and VFW Post #0117. His hobbies included playing bingo and fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Mandrell of Altus, five children; Carl Koprowski of Adrian, Oregon, Rhonda Wallace of San Diego, California, Teri Popma of Portland, Oregon, Jill Sullivan and Jimmy of Longview, Texasm Trina Marie Mandrell of Dimmitt, Texas, Georgia Ruth Goodman and Harmon of Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren; Dustin and Cassy Gerhart of Portland, Oregon, brittny and Ashley Sullivan, of Longview, Texas. A host of nieces, nephew, and many friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and one brother James W. Mandrell.
Services for Ray Mandrell are scheduled for 2pm Thursday, July 24, 2003 at the Lowell-Tims Chapel. Interment will follow at the Altus Cemetery with Military honors.
The family of Ray Mandrell will greet friends, Wednesday July 23, 2003 at Lowell-Tims Chapel from 7:00-8:30pm.
