Upon leaving service on January 15, 1946, his commander wrote, "PFC Johnson will be returning to farming where he helped his family on a large farm for eleven years, ending in 1943; raised cotton, wheat, peanuts and potatoes; used a tractor and team of mules to plow and cultivate; fed and took care of cattle and hogs; milked cows by hand and raised vegetables." In 1951, Edward moved to Hollis and continued to farm. He later lived in Wellington and farmed until age 72, moving to Altus on July 30, 2012, to be near his family.
