MAXFIELD
Ed Maxfield, age 96, of Mangum, passed away Friday afternoon, March 19, 2010, at Garnet Hill Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Home in Wiley, Texas.
Ed was born on March 15, 1914, in Willow Grove, Tennessee to Mitchell Melton and Ernest (Smith) Maxfield. His parents came to Greer County from Tennessee mainly to secure land and experience the westward expansion across the United States. He was a member of the 1933 MHS graduating class. The system, called pulse navigation, is an early predecessor of global positioning system technology.

In 1946, Ed"s buddy introduced him to Miss Vada Proctor, whom he married on November 19, 1948. Ed and his family made their home in Mangum, Oklahoma. Ed was a member of the Church of Christ.
