Obituary for Dr. Jimmy Dale Bell
Dr. Jimmy Dale Bell of Lindale, Texas formally from Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the age of 77.
Dr. Bell was born in Hollis, Oklahoma on February 24, 1944. His parents were JC and Molly Bell. He graduated high school in Hollis in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart Doris Elaine Jarvis on August 3, 1963. Jimmy and Doris had two sons, Russell and Christopher.
Dr. Bell‘s professional career included graduation from West Texas State University in Canyon Texas in 1968. He graduated from University of Health Sciences in Kansas City Missouri with the degree of Doctor of Osteopathy in 1972. He obtained two residencies in radiology and orthopedic surgery and became board-certified in orthopedics in 1982.
He was an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Health Sciences and Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines Iowa in 1982-1984. He was adjunct associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of Ebadin Medical School in Ebadin, Nigeria from 1995-2001.
Dr. Bell served his country in the United States Army working as a surgeon before being discharged as a Major in July 1976.
Jimmy truly enjoyed giving to others and volunteered doing medical mission work around the world. Over a 12 year period of time Jimmy and Doris were in Nigeria, China, India,The Congo, Ethiopia and Kenya doing missions.
Jimmy loved sailing and was an avid reader. He also served as a deacon at his church as well as teaching Sunday school.
He was preceded in death by his parents, JC and Molly Bell and brother Larry Bell.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris Elaine Bell, two sons - Russell Bell and Christopher Bell and eight Grandchildren - Joseph, Nicholas, Brandon, Andrew, Breanna, Brittney, Megan and Madison.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Hollis, Oklahoma.
