Dorothy June (Duff) Reece, age 79, of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away early Sunday evening, April 13, 2014, at her home in Mangum.
Dorothy was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 5, 1934 to Harry Edward and Leona (Marrs) Duff. Dorothy grew up in Tulsa, where she graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1952. On October 27, 1952 she married L.D. Reece in her parents" home in Tulsa and they were married for more than 48 years.
Dorothy worked as a waitress and telephone switchboard operator until 1964 when she went to California and her mother-in-law taught her how to make draperies. She started a custom-made drapery business in her home and over the next 30 years she owned and operated three successful drapery businesses until she retired in 1992.
Dorothy was a long time member of the Altus/Mangum Cancer Support Group and she was team captain of the Reece"s Pieces Relay for Life Team for nine years. She served as a board member of Southwest Oklahoma Community Action for five years and served as President of the 50+ Club. She was also a member of The Red Hatter"s.
Dorothy"s biggest enjoyment in life was spending time with her beloved family. She also enjoyed any kind of arts and crafts, but her favorites were sewing and crocheting.
Proceeded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Christopher Edward Reece and Michael Johnson Reece; two brothers, Billy Edward Duff and James Cecil Duff.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Laurell Ann and husband Jack Jefferson of Mangum, OK; two granddaughters, Carrie Michelle Reece of Grand Rapids, MI and Megan Nichole Reece of Wyoming, MI; two brothers, Charles Brownly Duff of Ellenton, FL and Darell Jack Duff of Manford, OK; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
The Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16th at the Greer Funeral Home in Mangum. Visitation will be held Friday, April 18th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.at Moore"s Southlawn Chapel in Tulsa with funeral services being at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19th, 2014 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel in Tulsa under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be Friday, April 18, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Moore"s Southlawn Chapel in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel in Tulsa, Oklahoma under the direction of Greer Funeral Home-Mangum.
