Dorothy June Dowdell, age 63, of Altus, passed away Tuesday evening, May 12, 2015, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
Ms Dowdell was born in New Haven, Connecticut on May 26, 1951, to William Edward and Winifred Ruth (Shine) Dowdell. Ms Dowdell graduated from West Haven High School, in Connecticut and lived there a number of years before moving to Altus in 1983, to be closer to her family. While living in Altus, Dorothy attended classes to become a Certified Nurse"s Aide and worked for many years in the healthcare field. In 1994, she moved to Missouri with her son. In 2005, she moved back to Altus, where she currently lived. After moving back to Altus, Mrs. Dowdell began working at the Wal-Mart Deli, where she was employed until her death. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and watching old classical movies on television.
Preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Karah Beason, she is survived by two children, Melissa Beason and husband Jeremy of Altus and Shawn Dowdell and wife Alyson of Oklahoma City; three grandchildren, Kendra Crowley, Kaylee Beason and Korie Beason; two sisters, Colleen Dowdell of Altus and Mary Dowdell and husband Tom Thayer of West Haven, Connecticut; four brothers, William Dowdell and wife Dall of Altus, John Dowdell and wife Loretta of Altus, Joseph Dowdell and wife Sue of Beacon Falls, Connecticut and Kelly Dowdell of West Haven, Connecticut along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services for Dorothy Dowdell will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jan Ivan Oden and Pastor Mitch McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
