Dorothy Anne Willis, 89, of the Victory Community, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Plantation Village Nursing Home in Altus.
Dorothy was born January 20, 1921, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Fred and Katherine (Byrd) Rogers. She grew up in the Victory Community and graduated high school there as Valedictorian. She married Edwin Franklin Willis in September of 1938 in Mangum, Oklahoma. She was a devoted homemaker and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed reading books, especially Reader"s Digest books, singing, working crossword puzzles, collecting rocks, and growing vegetables in her garden. Dorothy loved cooking for her family and was very faithful to cook breakfast every morning for her children and grandchildren. She was well known to tell all kinds of stories, from fairy tales to telling about her life growing up. She felt it was very important to preserve her family heritage. Dorothy was a member of the Highland Heights United Methodist Church in Altus.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin Willis on June 3, 1975, one son, Robert Willis in 1980, and a daughter-in-law, Ruth (Barnett) Willis, Dorothy is survived by her eight surviving children, daughter Karen A. Arthur and husband Jon of Bellevue, Nebraska; seven sons, Fred Willis and wife Elizabeth of Altus, James E. Willis of Terrellton, Oklahoma, Jesse D. Willis and wife Dee of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Don R. Willis of Altus, Roger D. Willis and wife ElDeana of Duke, Oklahoma, Larry G. Willis and wife Linda of Altus, and John Willis and wife Jammie of Victory, Oklahoma. She is also survived by twenty-five grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Dorothy Willis were 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2010, at the Lowell-Tims Chapel in Altus with Reverend Dee Willis, Reverend George Lupton, and Reverend Charles Stewart officiating. Interment was held at Victory Cemetery, five miles west of Altus, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
