Obituary for Doris Elaine Devoll
Doris Elaine Devoll, formerly of Mangum, Oklahoma, and more recently of Yukon, Oklahoma City, peacefully passed away at Integris South West Medical Center on May 25, 2024 at the age of eighty-one. Born on September 2, 1942, to Ivan Benjamin Mitchell and Jodie Bell (Coleman) Mitchell in Hollis, Oklahoma, she grew up and received her education in Vinson, Oklahoma, graduating in 1959. It was during her high school years that she met the love of her life, Carrol Devoll, whom she married on May 15, 1959. Their union was blessed with two children, Carrol Lynn, Jr. and Darrell.
Doris dedicated herself to her family, finding joy in being a homemaker. In 1978, she pursued her passion for education, enrolling at Western Oklahoma State College and earning a degree in business administration in 1979. Her professional journey led her to serve the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, beginning as a data entry clerk in Mangum before transferring to Canadian County in 1981. After over two decades of dedicated service, she embarked on a new chapter, assisting in the establishment of Forest Lake Retirement Center under the guidance of Ray Merritt. After Forest Lake opened Doris worked as the chief administrator until her retirement.
In her leisure time, Doris enjoyed browsing thrift stores and the occasional visit to the casinos, particularly relishing the excitement of slot machines at Lucky Star, Riverwind, and Newcastle. However, her greatest joy was found in her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she cherished with boundless love and devotion.
She was preceded in death by her father Ivan Benjamin Mitchell, mother, Jodie Bell (Colman) Mitchell, her beloved husband of thirty four years, Carrol Lynn Devoll, Sr, and her son, Darrell Devoll who was passed in infancy.
Doris is survived by her son, Carrol, and his wife, Julie; three grandchildren, Christopher Devoll and his wife, Courtney, Katrina Devoll, and Katy Devoll; as well as great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever be remembered by those who knew her.
The Devoll family will receive friends 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024 at Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024 at Riverside Cemetery, Mangum, Oklahoma.
Services have been entrusted to Greer Funeral Home, Mangum, Oklahoma.
