Obituary for Dora Willy Ivey
Dora Willy Ivey, age 84, lifelong resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, December 26th, 2002, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Services have been scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2002 at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. The family will be receiving guests at Lowell-Tims on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.
Dora was born October 17, 1918 in Gholson, Texas to Bob and Rachel Gifford. They moved to the Altus area when Dora was a small child. She graduated from Altus High School. On November 7, 1936, at the Presbyterian Church in Altus, Oklahoma, Dora and John R. Ivey were united in marriage. Dora worked as a Bank Teller at First State Bank and retired from there after more than 20 years. She was a devoted, active member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 60 years. She and J. R. were instrumental in building the Church at its present location. Dora was a member of the Senior Saints and enjoyed working in many capacities for her church.
Mrs. Ivey was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.R. in 1984; an infant brother and by three sisters, Jessie, Quessie and Lou.
She is lovingly survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Karen Ivey of Bixby, Oklahoma; two sisters, Rubye McKinley of Arlington, Texas and Robbye Kimble of Cambria, California; three grandchildren, Kelly Ivey, Kal Higgs and Richie Higgs; and by numerous great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
