Obituary for Derek Lee Briscoe
Derek Lee Briscoe, 56, of Altus, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
Derek was born March 14, 1954, in Altus to Dale and Wilma Lea (Harrison) Briscoe. He attended the Altus Public Schools and later attended college at Western Oklahoma State College where he graduated in May of 1990. Derek received his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond on May 7, 1993. He was voted Who"s Who Among American College Students, a member of the Behavioral Science Organization, Phi Alpha Theta, and Kappa Delta Pi. In 1989, he was awarded the Hall of Honor for Phi Theta Kappa, and in March of 1992, he was awarded the Mortar Board Honor Bronze Key. Derek was also a spokesperson for the Southwest Oklahoma Children"s Miracle Network.
Derek taught History and Geography at WOSC in Altus for over seventeen years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus.
Preceded in death by his father, Dale Briscoe, Derek is survived by one son, Brad Briscoe of Altus; three daughters, Mindy Brahier and husband Keith of Land O" Lakes, Florida, Samantha Briscoe of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Lisa Coates and husband James of Muskogee, Oklahoma; his mother, Wilma Briscoe of Altus; two brothers, Brent Briscoe and wife Robyn of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Rodney Briscoe and wife Tammi of Abilene, Texas; four grandchildren, Chance Larabee and Devin Larabee, both of Muskogee, Cole Brahier of Land O" Lakes, Florida, and Katelynn Coates of Muskogee; his good friends, Randy Goodrich of Duncan, Oklahoma, Bill Baker of Missouri, Chad Simon of Elk City, Oklahoma, Jasmine Sealey of Altus, Dan Muchmore of Tyler, Texas, and Dr. Doug Koontz of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Derek"s name to the First Baptist Church Prayer Ministry or to Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, Oklahoma.
The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church in Altus Friday, July 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Memorial Services for Derek Briscoe will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Altus with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
