Della Ann Thompson, age 66, of Midwest City, formerly of Granite, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 20, 2012, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Granite, Oklahoma on June 14, 1945, to Carl Chester and Lillie Margaret (Ballard) Calhoun. Growing up in Granite, Della worked on the family farm, and was a member of the Church of Christ. She began dating Paul Thompson and they were married on September 2, 1963 and were together forty-three wonderful years before his death on January 3, 2007. After Paul"s discharge from the U.S. Air Force, they moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, where they lived a short time, before moving to Oklahoma City. After Paul"s death Della moved to Midwest City to be near her daughter, where she lived until her death. A homemaker all of her life, Della loved shopping and playing bingo every Wednesday night with some of her grandsons. She also loved being with her family and watching her grandchildren play sports.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Leon Calhoun; three sisters, Fannie Varner, LaVerne Nuckolls and Mary Cook she is survived by her three children, Tina Hunter and husband Steve of Harrah, Oklahoma, Andrea Cooper and husband Rick of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Laura Smith and husband Erik of Midwest City; six grandchildren, Keith Giles, Renee Cooper, Richard Cooper, Jr., Michael Cooper, Christopher Smith and Trevor Smith; one great grandson, Beau Smith; three sisters, Betty Parsons of Nicoma Park, Oklahoma, Ruby Anderson of Hurst, Texas and Myrtie Clarke and husband Ron of Ada, Oklahoma; two brothers, L.D. Calhoun and wife Sue of Granite and Robert Calhoun and wife Karen of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma; a special longtime friend, Linda Hoelscher; one special Pekingese puppy, Nana and many other special friends and relatives.
Funeral services for Della Ann Thompson will be at 11 a.m., Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Granite Church of Christ with Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home, in Granite, on Thursday evening, March 22, 2012, from 5 until 6 p.m.
