Debra Mae Sylvia, age 59, of Granite, passed away Monday afternoon, February 23, 2015, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, in Lawton
Deb was born in Norfolk, Virginia on March 18, 1955, to Norman and Gertrude (Reynolds) DeMoranville. With her father in the military, the family moved to Massachusetts when Deb was a small child. As one of seven children, Deb was raised by her great-grandparents until age five. After graduating from Aponequet High School in Freetown, Massachusetts, she later married Raymond Lavoie. In 1992, she married Robert J. Sylvia. They later moved to Oklahoma City in 2003. After Robert"s death, Deb moved to Mangum in 2012 and in 2014, when her health began to fail, she moved to Granite to be near her daughter. A loving and generous person, Deb was a home health aide most of her life, always helping other people.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Sylvia and one sister Norma DeMoranville, she is survived by three children, William Lavoie and wife Robyn of Mangum, Roger R. Lavoie of Mangum and Crissy Sylvia of Granite; three step children; fourteen grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; two sisters, Brenda Simmons and husband Andrew of Assonet, Massachusetts and Lori Szynal and husband Steve of Massachusetts; three brothers, Raymond DeMoranville and wife Gayla of New Bedford, Massachusetts, David DeMoranville of Atlebora, Massachusetts and Ricky Pittsley and wife Cindy of Freetown, Massachusetts along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Debra Sylvia will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 26, 2014, at Greer Funeral Home Chapel, in Mangum with Pastor Darrell Coffman officiating. Following the funeral, according to Debra"s wishes, cremation services will take place under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
