Obituary for David Michael Cowley
David Michael Cowley died unexpectedly at his home in Altus, Oklahoma on Saturday, March 1, 2008. He was 46 years old.
David, the elder son of Thomas G. Cowley and Rosemarie (Koenig) Cowley was born in Rochester, New York at St. Mary's Hospital on July 1, 1961. He attended schools in Ames, IOwa until the family's move to to Ponca City in 1967. He attended Ponca City Senior High and graduated in May of 1979. His interests through growing up years included hunting,
fishing, taxidermy, wild life preservation creative writing and wildlife photography. He carried these passions with him throughout his life. He began his lifelong involvement with Ducks Unlimited at this time.
Upon graduation in 2003, he moved to Lubbock, Texas where he worked as a successful taxidermist whose work was in demand by bird hunters
from around the country.
He received many awards for his work locally, regionally and nationally. In 1990, David began writing for the American Taxidermist magazine and continued this until his death.
In 2003 he moved to Altus and married Gloria Montelongo September 22, 2003. David continued his work in taxidermy through a company in Oklahoma City while remaining in Altus, and then opened his own shop in his home.
David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Emil and Gladys Koenig, and paternal grandparents, William and Doris Cowley.
He is survived by his wife Gloria, his mother, Rosemarie Fraites, his parents, Tom and Linda Cowley; grandparents, Ora and Helen Hiskett; his brothers Dan Cowley and Matthew Cowley; his sons Benjamin Page of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Joseph Motley of Oklahoma City; and his god-parents Karen Johnson and Michael Cowley; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial service for David Michael Cowley will be held at a later date
