SKILLMAN
David Lynn Skillman was born in Altus, Oklahoma on February 17, 1949, to Cecil and Frankie (Zinn) Skillman. David passed away early Friday morning, January 20, 2017, in Temple, Oklahoma.
David was much loved by his brother Don Gayle and sister Martha Ann. He was born with Downs Syndrome, but it should have been Ups Syndrome as he was such a happy child and was so loving. He loved Elvis and like to sing and dance to his music. One of his favorite TV shows was Dark Shadows. He also loved monster movies and books. He was quiet an artist. He drew faces as he saw them and some looked like outer space people, but maybe that is what we looked like to him. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He was a little spoiled, maybe a lot spoiled, but he was always happy, winning the hearts of all his family in the group home in Lawton or wherever he was. The ICU nurse said she played Elvis music for him and he would give her a little smile. He was still winning hearts as sick as he was.
He is survived by his sister Martha Ann White and Paula Skillman, his sister-in-law along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents who he joins in heaven, smiling and making them happy.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Altus City Cemetery with Rev. Erin Martinez officiating. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
