Obituary for David Dean Kirby
David Dean Kirby, 70, resident of Mangum, Oklahoma passed away at his home on October 16, 2019. He was born on August 22, 1949 in Brawley, California to Noel and Ruth (Kramar) Kirby. David was the fifth of seven children. Growing up in California he attended Silsbee Elementary, McCabe Elementary, he graduated from Central Union High School, went on to attend Imperial Valley College. David then joined the United States Army in June 1968. While in basic training at Fort Ord, David met the love of his life, Patty Waldroop in chapel services. After corresponding until he returned from his year in Viet Nam in 1969, they were married on November 14, 1970 in Salinas, California.
David completed four years of Carpentry Apprenticeship classes at Hartnell Community College and worked as a carpenter for 15 years, before becoming a Union Business Agent until his bicycle accident in September 1986. He and his family lived in Prunedale, California until 1988 before moving to Mangum, Oklahoma where they made their home on a farm east of town.
David was an active member of the Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed teaching youth and song leading classes. David also served the community in many ways. He served on the E-911 Board, QMCC Christian Camp Board, Greer County Ambulance Board and the Hester Fire Department. David taught his children how to live a life of service to others. He was the family clown and brought a smile to all he met. He was generous, kind and tried to always be of help to anyone in need.
David is preceded in death by his parents; Son, Adam Ray Kirby; One brother, Keith Richard Kirby.
He is survived by his loving wife, Patty, of the home; Three children, Matthew James Kirby of Mangum, Oklahoma, Jeremiah and wife Brooke Kirby of Mangum, Oklahoma, and Patricia Bryan and husband Mark of Yukon, Oklahoma; Thirteen grandchildren, Kameron Kirby, Adam Kirby, Kaytlin Kirby, Courtney Bryan, Heather Bryan, Jasmin Bryan, Tiffany Brian, Zoey Brian, Grayson Bryan, Annika Bryan, Charlee Kirby, Jackson Kirby, Talula Kirby; Three step-granddaughters, Valeria, Melissa and Gabriella; One great-grandson, Kodi Kirby; Parents-in-law, Raymond and Marjorie Waldroop; Sibling, Noel “Ernie and wife Vicki Kirby, Ron and wife Mary Kirby, Janet and husband Mike Powers, Karen and husband Mike Trigs, and Lowell and wife Natalie Kirby; One brother-in-law, James and wife Michelle Waldroop. He also leaves behind a host of relatives and friends,
Services will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, October21, 2019 at the Mangum Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.
