LONGMIRE
Darrel Carson Longmire was born on January 3, 1926 to Ruby and Carl Longmire in Mangum, Oklahoma. He attended grade school in Fairview and high school at Centralvue School. In 1944, at eighteen years of age, Carson spent two years in the Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946. On March 9, 1946 he and Ruth Shannon were married. They moved to California where he attended and graduated from Northrop Aeronautical Institute.
Carson and Ruth have three children. Michael, the oldest, and his wife Joy live in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Steven, their second son, and his wife Francine live in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma; and Carla Sue Foreman, their only daughter, lives with her husband Gordon in Oklahoma City. Ruth and Carson have four granddaughters and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carl Winston and Ray Curtis.
Carson was a successful aerospace structural engineer, and he enjoyed his work at Boeing, Douglas, and Rockwell International. After forty years, he retired in 1988 and moved to Bixby, Oklahoma.
Through many happy years, he enjoyed hunting, golfing, fishing, gardening, and reading. After years of genealogy and family research, he self-published a book in 2011 on his life and heritage.
In Ruth"s estimation Carson has been the best husband there could ever be, always putting his family before himself, and his family best remembers him for his dry sense of humor, quick wit, and intellect. He will be greatly missed.
