Obituary for Dallas Eugene Gibbs
Dallas was born on August 18, 1945 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Elam Columbus and Wilma Faye (Cooper) Gibbs. He grew up in Arkansas and graduated high school from there. He married Shirley Fouts on August 14, 1965 in Altus, Oklahoma. Dallas enlisted into the US Air Force and served for 21 ½ years, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant. After his retirement, he attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Dallas taught for the Tipton Public Schools for another 19 years before finally retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his yard.
His parents; father-in-law, Thomas Marvin Fouts; and a brother-in-law, Marvin Fouts; preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; a daughter, Crystal Kennelly and husband, Michael; a son, Matthew Gibbs and wife, Tiffany; four grandchildren, Ryan McLeod and wife, Tiffany; Alexus, Arissa, and Alissa Gibbs; a great granddaughter, Jordyn McLeod; two sisters, Janet Lager and husband, Pete, and Ann Julian and husband, Stephen; his mother-in-law, Iva Coffman; three sisters-in-law, Patsy Fouts, Brenda Rea and husband, Joe, and Joan Barbee; a brother-in-law, Steve Fouts and wife, Nina; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 18, 2024 in the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Mark Reuter officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
