Dale W. Bilbrey

Dale Bilbrey age 83, long time Olustee, Ok. resident passed away peacefully at home Monday, February 15th, 2021. Dale was born September 18, 1937 in Olustee to his parents Robert "Eck" Bilbrey and Mary Osborne Bilbrey. They moved to Southern California when Dale was 16 weeks old and lived-in different areas following Eck's work. They moved to San Diego in 1940 where Eck worked in the ship building yards. Dale and family lived in San Diego 7 years and then moved back to Olustee. From age 11 to 14 Dale delivered the Altus Times Newspaper in Olustee. The next 3 years he went on wheat harvest, pulled cotton and worked on local farms. Dale loved sports, especially basketball and was picked as a member of the Jackson County All Star basketball team in 1955. Dale graduated from high school in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart and best friend Jennnie Kay Fessenden.

After high school Dale worked construction on the Altus Air Force Base and joined the Oklahoma National Guard becoming part of the 45th Infantry Division, H&S company. He lost his left kidney in 1957 and was honorably discharged. Dale then went to work for ARKLA Gas Company in Altus becoming Office Manager. Dale and Kay were baptized in the First Baptist Church of Olustee and their daughter Patti in the First Baptist Church of Altus.

Dale and family then moved to Duncan where Dale was Office Manager. Patti graduated from Duncan High School in 1974. In 1975 they moved back to Olustee where Dale started farming with Pete Fessenden, Kay's father.

In 1996 Dale became a Department of Corrections Officer and went to work for the Oklahoma State Penitentiary at Granite. He worked there until 2000. From 1998 to 2000 he also worked as a Reserve Police Officer for the Altus Police Department.

Dale worked 8 years as security for Fox Lumber Company in Altus. In 2010 he had quadruple bypass surgery ending his working career.

In 2016 his wife preceded him death. Over the following years he became even closer to his daughter Patti, they were best friends. Also preceding Dale in death were his parents, Mary and Eck Bilbrey.

He is survived by his daughter Patti Hook and her husband Mike of Broken Arrow, his grandson Byron Hook and his wife Charlotte of Stillwater, his great-grandchildren Cheyenne and Breanne of Stillwater, his sister Sandra Parker of Norman, sister-in-law Debra Border and her husband John of Altus and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members as well as many friends.

The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.

Dale's funeral and celebration of life will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel in Altus. Burial will be at the Olustee cemetery following services.
