GARNER
Curtis Emery Garner, age 86, of Mangum, passed away Monday morning, January 6, 2014, at his residence, in Mangum.
Mr. Garner was born on March 15, 1927, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Joe O. and Celeste Lee (Kelly) Garner. Living several different places due to his father"s work, Curtis found himself in California during World War II and joined the Merchant Marines at age sixteen. Turning seventeen in the South Philippines, in a war zone, he soon returned to Monterey, California where he met the love of his life, Flora Dell Allen. They were soon married and spent the next sixty-five wonderful years together before her death on January 6, 2012. The family resided in Marina, California for many years and additionally lived in Salinas, California, National City, California, Fayetteville, North Carolina and Las Vegas, Nevada before moving to Mangum in 2005. Together, they traveled the world. A lifelong member of the Kiwanis Club, Curtis enjoyed hunting, fishing, jewelry making, restoring old automobiles, primarily Volkswagens that were made in the 60"s and spending time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Joe O. "Buster" Garner, Jr.; two sisters, Othello Sweet and Peggy Ann Myers; one daughter, Donna Inez Garner and one granddaughter, Michelle Guthy, he is survived by two children, Linda Louise Hicks and husband Norm of Bakersfield, California and one son, Terry Emery Garner and wife Katherine of Mangum; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one brother, Kenneth Garner and wife Louise of Fayetteville, North Carolina along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, in California, where Curtis Garner will be inurned.
