Obituary for Cortis Stanley Martin
Cortis Stanley Martin, age 75, long time Jackson County educator who died Wednesday morning.

Services are scheduled for Friday, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Keith Wiginton. Burial will follow at the Martha Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.

He was born September 9th, 1917 at Duke, Oklahoma. He was the son of George and Emma Martin. He attended schools at Martha graduating in 1936. He attended Southwestern State University in 1936 to 1942 receiving his B.A. degree in 1940. Later he attended Notre Dame University at Southbend, IN. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corp and later with the Navy where he was a Lt. JG. He taught school at Southside where he was Superintendent, Principal, teacher and Coach from 1940 - 1943, Erick, OK Principal and Coach 1945, and Martha Schools, Altus, Duke from 1948 - 1979. He was a member of the Oklahoma Teachers Association, Retired Teachers Association, Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame, and Music Director at the First Baptist Church of Martha for 30 years. He served as President of the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include: his wife, Lola Martin of the home in Altus, Oklahoma; a daughter, Marilyn Cinotto of Midland, TX; two brothers, Charley Martin and wife Nellie of Weatherford, OK and Kenneth Martin and wife Jodean of Martha, OK; one grandchild, David Ty Russell of Norman, OK.
