Clayton Tinney

Well known Altus area farmer and businessman, Clayton Tinney, passed from this world on January 29, 2000. Clayton was born October 17th, 1909 to Jim and Julia (Odione) Tinney in Frazier, Oklahoma, where he attended Frazier school, later attending, Altus schools.

Clayton married LaVelle Garren on March 12, 1928 and was to sustain a loving marriage with her for nearly 60 years until her death in November 1997. They had two children Robbie Clay and Michael Don.

Clayton was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. He was active in his business pursuits up until the time of his death. In early days he worked as a Butcher and as a sheep and cattle buyer, was the co owner of the Modern Implement and Fertilizer Company, was involved in a partnership in a cotton gin in Headrick, co-developed the Star addition in Altus and served as a Director of the National Livestock Commission For 15 years. Clayton served on the Board of Directors at the Lugert Altus Irrigation district, and was a member and incorperator of TB&H oil company. He was a lifetime Farmer and Rancher as well as a longtime supporter of the youth at the Jackson County Livestock Show.

In addition to being a prodigious business man, Clayton was a remarkable man who will always be remembered for his quick wit and sharp humor. Clayton was a devout Christian, a dedicated husband, an understanding father, a loving grandfather, a caring great-grandfather, an admirable friend and an exemplary human being. Clayton stamped his unique mark on the memories of all who knew him and his spirit will carry on in our hearts forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, his wife LaVelle, a son Mike Tinney, and a granddaughter-in-law Johnna Beth Kerr. Survivors are a daughter Robbie Clay and Bob Kerr o9f Altus, grandchildren Garren Tinney of Oklahoma City, Robert Kerr of Warren, Robin and Brad Wenk, Rodger and Tamra Kerr all of Altus, and great grandchildren Keithta Kerr, Braxton and Kerrstin Wenk and Kaleb Kerr.

We might all aspire to have the same degree of vision, generosity and benevolence he seemed so effortlessly to possess, and we may rest assured that he shall now finally, be truly rewarded for his perseverance on this earth

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, January 31, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Altus. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home
