Obituary for Clayton Donnell Olive

Clayton Donnell Olive, a cherished resident of Mangum, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away on June 1, 2024, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma. Born on September 19, 1946, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Henry and Betty (Cook) Olive. Clayton was raised and educated in Mangum. Graduating with the class of 1964, he embarked on a remarkable journey of service and dedication. Enlisting in the United States Army on July 6, 1966, Clayton bravely served his country for over six years, including two deployments to Vietnam, where he faced heavy combat. His valor and commitment earned him numerous accolades, including the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After Vietnam he served in Alaska and Maryland before being Honorably discharged in 1972, Clayton returned home to Mangum, where he found solace in the simplicity of farm life. For nearly five decades, he worked tirelessly as a farmhand for the Wilson family, finding joy in the tranquility of nature and the companionship of farm animals. Clayton's unwavering dedication to his community and his love for Mangum remained constant throughout his life. He was a man of integrity, known for his hard work and passion for ranching. Clayton leaves behind a legacy of courage, humility, and unwavering commitment to his roots.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Aneda Neathery, Brenda Jaco; and his long-standing employer and friend Henry Wilson.


Left to honor his legacy and memory are, Brother, Ben Olive and wife Phyllis of Bryan, Texas; Nieces and Nephews, James Olive and wife Jana of Houston, Texas, Angela Olive Shick and Husband Roger of Hastings Minnesota, Jacob Olive and wife Amanda of Bryan, Texas, Ethan Olive and wife Samantha of Bryan, Texas, Connie Hazen and Husband Vince of Lometa, Texas, Jeff Neathery and wife Elaine of San Antonio, Texas, Clint Wilson and Wife Leah of Franklin, Texas, and Darcia Henry of Mangum, Oklahoma. Also surviving Clayton are his boss and friend, Lillian Wilson along with Penny and Glenda Atkinson as his second family in Mangum.
