Obituary for Claudio Tovar, Sr.
Claudio Tovar, 82, of Altus, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus.
He was born October 29, 1929, to Pantalion and Maria de Jesus Zerme"o Tovar in Corralitos Coahuila, Mexico.
Claudio married Eusebia Arellano on August 15, 1950 in Florida Coahuila, Mexico. They had 15 children. In 1969, they moved to Clinton, Oklahoma, where they lived for 5 years and Claudio worked for the turkey plant. In 1974, they moved to Altus where they made their home. He and his wife became U.S. Citizens and received their citizenship in 1994. For many years, Claudio had a business where he sold ceramics to help support his large family. Claudio loved to spend time with his family. He was the inspiration for his 6 sons, who all became involved in the ministry. Claudio worked for Altus Public Schools for 23 years. He made a great impact on the teachers and students of Altus Public Schools. He was known for his big smile and his gracious spirit. He loved music and wrote many spiritual songs, (which he sang with his wife) in the ministry for over 20 years. He was dearly loved by his many grandchildren, 87 in total, over 30 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, and 3 great- great- great-grandchildren. Truly, he was loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Eusebia Tovar of the home in Altus; 10 children, Sergio Tovar and Amparo Charles of Houston, Texas, Maria Concepcion and husband Gustavo Rodriguez, Maria de Jesus and husband Juan Cardenas, Olivia Tovar, all of Clinton, Oklahoma. Cesar and wife Norma Tovar, Berto and wife Nora Tovar, Pastor Joe and wife Dina Tovar, all of Altus, Oklahoma, Wilma and husband Joe Garza, Ernest Tovar, Claudio Jr. and wife Melissa, all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Claudio was preceded in death by his parents, Pantalion and Maria de Jesus Tovar, two daughters, Georgina and Maggie Fuentes, three brothers, Antonio, Pablo, Juan, and one sister Maria, all of Mexico, two grandchildren, Natalie Tovar and Sergio Tovar Jr.
Pallbearers will be his sons and son-in-law, Sergio, Ernest, Cesar, Claudio, and Berto Tovar and Juan Cardenas.
A Memorial Viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at the Templo Sinai Spanish Assembly of God Church, 805 N. Blain, in Altus.
Funeral Services for Claudio Tovar will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Lowell-Tims Chapel in Altus with Pastor Joe Tovar officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
