PRUETT
Clarence Ephraim Pruett was born July 12, 1919, at Gotebo, OK, to Elven F. and Lillie Mae (Baskett) Pruett. His family bought the farm home place at Reed, OK, that summer and moved to the location where he continued to reside until 2014 when his failing health made it imperative that he live at Plantation Assisted Living Center in Altus, OK. He passed away Friday, August 4, 2017 in Altus at the age of 98.
He attended all of his school years at Reed School and graduated from Reed High School in 1938, which was the first graduating class in the new building. He completed one year and had begun his second year at Cameron Junior College (now Cameron University), Lawton, when his father took ill and died. At that time he returned home to maintain the family farm.
On September 29, 1940, Clarence and Rosa Lee McAlexander, also of Reed, were united in marriage in the home of Bro. O.S. Brewer at Mangum. To this union, two daughters were born, Barbara Louise and Gloria Aline. They had been married for nearly seventy-three years when Rosa Lee passed away in 2013. He was a wonderful husband and father to his family. They had farmed and ranched until 2002 when he retired. Clarence was also manager of the Reed Cooperative Gin from 1960-1963.
Clarence was saved and became a member of the Sulphur Missionary Baptist Church, Reed, OK, in 1932. On October 31, 1943, he was ordained as a deacon where he continued to be a faithful member, deacon, and Sunday School teacher until his health failed. He had also been church clerk for 29 years, Sunday School Secretary, Clerk of the Southwest Baptist Association, served on the Reed Gin board a number of years, as well as serving on other boards and holding various offices during his lifetime. All of their married lives, the Pruetts were blessed by opening their home to pastors and visiting preachers for meals and lodging.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Louise and Larry Paxton, Blair, OK; and Gloria and Randy Mosley, Snyder, OK; and one grandson, Brandon Mosley, Choctaw, OK.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother in 1918; his parents (father 1939) and (mother 1989); his wife (2013); and a sister, Retha Mason (2015).
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 7 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Mangum, OK with Dr. Royce Smith, Choctaw, OK, officiating. Interment will follow at the Reed Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum.
