Obituary for Christine Evelyn Mayfield
Christine Evelyn Mayfield passed away at Grace Living Center in Altus, Oklahoma, on February 11th, 2002.
Christine was born July 9th, 1918 in Chanute, Kansas to Escal Nicholas Eskridge and Selma Petronella Benson Eskridge. On April 21, 1937, she married Gordon Keith Mayfield in Independence, Kansas. They moved to Altus in 1958 where she was employed for many years with George C. Wright Lumber Co. and later at Red River Credit Union as a bookkeeper. She also became associated with her son and daughter-in-and law, Bob and Verna, at Altus Printing Company and remained there until her retirement.
She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Christine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Gordon Keith Mayfield; a son, Donald Nicholas Mayfield; one sister, Mary Ellen Eskridge; two brothers, Escal H. Eskridge and Rudolph Benson Eskridge.
Christine is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Verna Mayfield of Altus, Oklahoma and Michael and Carol Mayfield of Pensacola, Florida. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Nikki Travis of Reno, Nevada, Ronda Litsch of Altus, Oklahoma, Robert Douglas Mayfield of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Traci Freeman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Jay Mayfield of Pensacola, Florida; and by twelve great-grandchildren.
Services for Christine Mayfield are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2002 at the Emmanual Baptist Church with Rev Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
