Obituary for Chester Snow
Chester Snow was born on August 21st, 1916 to J. E. (Sim) and Annie (Zora) Snow in Greer County West of Willow, Oklahoma. He attended Eastview High School, graduating in 1936 and attended Keen's Business College in Elk City, OK. In 1940 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps in Altus, Oklahoma and went through basic training at Kelly Field in San Antonio, TX as an airplane mechanic. He was transferred to the Goodfellow Field in San Angelo, TX, working with the P-40 trainer airplanes. There he met his wife Omega whom he married on March 22, 1942.

In July 1944, he was sent to China to help maintain the Flying Tigers that were used during World War II. He returned to the U.S. in November 1945 and was stationed at Randolph Field for 6 years working with the B-38 bomber squadron. The Snows' lived in Schertz, TX during this time. In 1952 he was transferred and the family moved to Orlando, FL to Pinecastle AFB, later named McCoy AFB, where he was assigned to the B-47 long range bombers. As a top-notch mechanic, he advanced through the ranks and when the Altus AFB was re-activated in the early 1950's, he and his family happily returned to Oklahoma in 1958. Chester was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus for 41 years, first working with the children's Sunday School in the Junior Department. He was Sunday School Superintendent for 30 years and was a member of the Official Board of the Church. He retired from the Air Force as First Chief Master Sergeant in 1961 and entered in the laundry business in Altus with his brother Lester until 1965. Later he joined the Civil Service as a Quality Control Specialist for 29 years, retiring in 1994 when he was 78 years old.

The Snow's moved to Yukon in 1998 to Spanish Cove Retirement Center, where Chester passed away on August 16th, 2002, with his family at his side.

He is survived by his wife Omega of Yukon; children, Mary Lou Wolff of New York, Betty and James Hazeldine of Norman, OK; grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth Wolff of MA, Greg and Jill Hazeldine of Norman, OK and Eric Hazeldine of Houston, TX; two great-grandchildren, Jared and Jonathan Hazeldine; three brothers, Bailey and wife Nita Snow of Yukon, Albert Snow and Eugene Snow and wife Dorothy of Oklahoma City; and two sisters, Creta and her husband Doyce Jones of Oklahoma City and Dortha Taylor of Houston, TX.

His parents, brother Lester Snow and sister-in-law, Dr. Marie Snow, preceded him in death.

Services are at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 19th at the First United Methodist Church in Altus. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery.
