Charles David Yoder, 80, died April 28, 2010 in Abilene, Kansas. He was born on March 26, 1930 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Cecil B. Yoder and Ida L. McMeans Yoder. He grew up in Mangum graduating with the class of 1948 and went on to Oklahoma (A & M) State University.
Charles joined the Army in 1953 and served in Germany, Vietnam, Argentina and Iran before retiring in 1974 and returning to Mangum to make his home. Charles was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mangum and served in a variety of capacities on committees, as Lay Speaker, and as District United Methodist Men"s President. He was also a Mason. Charles also served his community on various boards and as Mayor. He married Winona A. Wilhite on June 21, 1952. She preceded him in death on July 23, 1978. On August 1, 1979 he married Norma L. Edwards and she preceded him in death on October 30, 2002.
Charles is also preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Mary F. Yoder and one stepson, Steve Edwards. Charles is survived by: Two sons, Carl Yoder and wife Karen of University Place, Washington and David Yoder and wife Julie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one stepson, Jim Edwards and wife Ruby of Abilene, Kansas; grandchildren, Christopher Yoder, Nathan Yoder, Joshua Yoder, Stephanie Govich, Jeremy Edwards, Jeff Edwards, Emily Robertson and Sarah Temkin; great grandchildren, Alyx Edwards, Ellery Edwards, Mila Govich, Jaden Edwards, Genevieve Robertson, Samuel Robertson" and two more on the way.
Funeral services for Charles Yoder will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Mangum with Rev. Don Tabberer officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Friday from 6 until 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Mangum First United Methodist Church in Charles Yoder"s memory.
