Carmack W. Reed, age 85, of Granite, passed away early Monday morning, August 23, 2010, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center in Mangum.
Mr. Reed was born in Lake Creek, Oklahoma on October 26, 1924, to John and Annie Dolly (Doss) Reed. After graduating from Lake Creek School in 1942, he worked at the Granite Lumber Yard and Leonard"s Lumber Company, in Mangum, for several years. During this time he also farmed and worked in constructing homes. He was also a retired guard from the Department of Corrections at Granite OSR. Gardening, working crossword puzzles and taking care of his John Deere was what he enjoyed doing best.
Preceded in death by his parents, one step-daughter, Willa Mae McPhetters and his wife, Mattie Terry Reed, he is survived by four step children, Ruby Lewis of Granite, Joe Bob Terry of El Reno, Lanell Estes of Fresno, California and Martha Rose of Clearlake Oaks, California; two cousins, Mike Winterbank of Ft. Worth, Texas and Warren Thorp of Enid along with two special friends, Bobby and Tammy Dreyer of Granite.
Funeral services for Carmack Reed will be at 10 a.m., Friday, August 27, 2010, at the Granite First Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Van Vacter III officiating. Interment will follow at the Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home in Mangum on Thursday, August 26, 2010, from 6 until 7 p.m.
