Obituary for Byron Leroy Paul
Byron Leroy Paul, 61 resident of Oklahoma City and former resident of Altus, Oklahoma passed away on December 20, 2020, at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Bryon was born on January 24, 1959, to his Mother Martha Paul and Father Clarence Paul in Altus, Oklahoma. He grew up in Altus, Oklahoma all his life attending and graduating from Altus Public Schools. While in High School he ran Track and even won a few metals during his track career. After he graduated high school he went to the University of Oklahoma and was the OU football defensive back from 1977- 1981. In 1982 he received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. After his graduation from the University of Oklahoma he joined the United States Navy to serve his country. Throughout his 27 years of service he became a Yeoman First Class (E6). Also, while in the Navy he was a Correctional Custody Specialist Ashore. While enlisted the navy sent him to San Diego, California, New Orleans, Louisiana, Kuwait, and Wichita Falls, Texas. He served this country from 1988 to 2015, but he did not stop there after his time in the navy he went into the Navy Reserve Personnel Command from 2015 to 2017. He began working as a Juvenile Justice Case Manager and Work Release Case Manager after his retirement from the United States Navy. When he was not spending time with his family he was reading, fishing, drawing, hunting, coming up with new ways to prank his family, traveling across the country or studying African Ancestry and the Civil Rights Movement.
He is preceded in death by his mother Martha Paul (Hill) and his father Clarence Joseph Paul; sister Phyllis Oneida Williams (Paul).
Byron is survived by Wanda Thomas; Kayla Thomas (stepdaughter); brother Clarence Michael Paul; and cousins Larry Madden and Steven Madden as well as a host of numerous other family and friends.
Funeral services are planned for 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2020, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 28, 2020, at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma with military honors.
