CAMPBELL
Billy R. Campbell, age 74, of Granite, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 6, 2010, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Billy was born on July 2, 1935, in Hobart, to Fred Elbert and Gladys Jean (Beddo) Campbell. Moving to Granite as a second grader, he graduated from Granite High School in 1953. On December 12, 1954, he married Christene Cornett and they spent the next fifty-five wonderful years together before his death. After their marriage, while living in Mangum, Billy worked at Goad Pontiac, Gold Star Creamery and as an electrician for the City of Mangum. In 1965, they moved to Granite where Billy worked at the Oklahoma State Reformatory until 1987, and later at the Greer County Sheriff"s Department. Always involved in the community, Billy was one of Granite"s first EMT"s and also served as a volunteer fireman and chief for over twenty years. Spending time raising, riding and training horses, was one of Billy"s favorite pastimes, but chasing after and being involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren was what brought him the most enjoyment in life.
Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Billy Ray Campbell, Jr. and his son-in-law, Monte Ford, he is survived by his wife, Christene, of the home; three daughters, Kelly Ford of Elk City, Kristy Campbell of Altus and Karen Goodson and husband Bobby of Granite; five grandchildren, Billy Dale Ford of Elk City, Tami Hall and husband Danny of Dalhart, Texas, Jessica White and husband Alex of Altus, Katy Rhoades and husband Michael of Granite and Karen Goodson of Duke; six great grandchildren, Taylor Ford, Coltin Hall, Caitlyn Hall, Ryan White, M"Kayah Rhoades and Kayzlynn Rhoades; a special friend, Mercedes Terry along with many other relatives and friends.
