Betty Maurice Walker, age 87, of Altus, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 3, 2016, at Plantation Village Assisted Living Center, in Altus.
Betty was born in Martha, Oklahoma on January 25, 1929, to Augusta Lee and Thelma Catherine (Lankford) Boyd. After graduating from Martha High School in 1947, she married Earl Wilbur Walker on June 14, 1947, and they spent the next sixty-seven wonderful years together until his death on October 19, 2014. In 1953, Wilbur joined the United States Postal Service and they resided in Hollis, until his retiring as the Hollis Postmaster, in 1982, and moved home, to Altus. A long-time member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ, Betty taught fourth grade Bible Class for many years. Betty and Wilbur were loyal supporters of Westview Boys Home, in Hollis, and were also youth sponsors for many years at church and accompanied the church youth and Westview Boys Home on many trips as sponsors. Betty was also a member of the Criterion Club and the Women"s Social Club for several years. In her spare time Betty loved being with her friends and family and traveling, especially to Branson and Colorado Springs.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Wilbur Walker; a sister, Shirlen McDaniel and a brother-in-law, Bill Milam, she is survived by a sister, June Milam of Springdale, Arkansas; a brother-in-law, Roy McDaniel of Altus; six special nieces and nephews, Ditzi Dee Cameron of Springdale, Arkansas, Billy Lee Milam and wife Patty of Omaha, Nebraska, Kim Hamilton and husband David of Oletha, Kansas, Pam Keck of Altus, Wilbur Glenn McDaniel and wife Connie of Denham Springs, Louisiana and Patricia Luebking and husband Mike of Altus along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Betty Walker will be at 10 a.m., Friday, May 6, 2016, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends on Thursday evening at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6 until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Westview Boys Home or Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice, in memory of Betty Walker.
