COSSEY
BETTY JEAN COSSEY DEPARTED FOR HER HEAVENLY HOME ON MAY 5, 2016 AT THE AGE OF 80 YEARS AND FIVE MONTHS. SHE PASSED AWAY AT INTREGRIS HEART HOSPITAL IN OKLAHOMA CITY OF COMPLICATIONS OF SURGERY.
SHE WAS BORN ON NOVEMBER 16, 1935, IN ENID OKLAHOMA TO CORA M. LEACH TURPIN AND GEORGE W. TURPIN. SHE MOVED WITH HER FAMILY TO ELK CITY OKLAHOMA WHERE SHE ATTENDED ELK CITY SCHOOLS AND GRADUATED IN MAY, 1954. SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE LADY ELKS BASKETBALL TEAM, PLAYING FORWARD ON THE SIX-ON-SIX TEAM. ON JUNE 6, 1954 SHE MARRIED HER HIGH-SCHOOL SWEETHEART, JACK COSSEY, IN YUMA ARIZONA. THEY ESTABLISHED A HOME IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA WHILE JACK SERVED IN THE U.S. NAVY. AFTER LEAVING THE NAVY THEY RETURNED TO ELK CITY WHERE THEY LIVED WHILE JACK ATTENDED SOUTHWESTERN STATE COLLEGE SCHOOL OF PHARMACY. AFTER HIS GRADUATION THEY MOVED TO MANGUM TO WORK AT THE MOAD DRUG STORE. TO THIS UNION FOUR CHILDREN WERE BORN, THREE BOYS AND ONE GIRL. BETTY WAS A LIFELONG MEMBER OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, AND ON MOVING TO MANGUM SHE JOINED THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF MANGUM. SHE SERVED IN MANY ROLES IN THE CHURCH, INCLUDING MORE THAN 30 YEARS A CHURCH TREASURER. BETTY WAS A LOVING WIFE AND MOTHER TO HER FAMILY WHICH SHE CONSIDERED HER CALLING IN LIFE. SHE ENJOYED TRAVELING, READING AND PLAYING GAMES WITH HER FAMILY.
BETTY WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS AND BROTHERS BILLY, DONNIE AND BOBBY TURPIN.
SHE IS SURVIDED BY HER HUSBAND OF THE HOME, HER THREE SONS, DAVID OF EDMOND, OK; DONALD OF EDMOND, OK; AND DOUGLAS AND WIFE LIBBY OF ALTUS, OK. AND ONE DAUGHTER DONNA AND HUSBAND LARRY BULL, OF MANGUM. SIX GRANDCHILDREN, AMBER BULL-DIAZ AND HUSBAND GENE OF CHICKASHA, OK. ABIGAL BULL OF CHICKASHA, OK. JACOB AND JUSTIN COSSEY OF EDMOND, OK. MADISON COSSEY, OF CHENY, WA., AND JOSHUA COSSEY OF ALTUS, OK. ONE GREAT-GRANCHILD, FINLEY DIAZ OF CHICKASHA, OK.
THE FAMILY WILL GREET FRIENDS AT VISITATION FROM 7:00 PM UNTIL 8:00 PM, SATURDAY, MAY 7, 2016 AT GREER FUNERAL HOME IN MANGUM.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE 10:00 AM, MONDAY, MAY 9, 2016 AT THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN MANGUM WITH INTERMENT FOLLOWING AT RIVERSIDE CEMETERY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF GREER FUNERAL HOME, MANGUM.
