Betty Elizabeth Ezzell Byrd, 83, resident of Hollis, Oklahoma passed away December 3, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
April 28, 1939, the Strickland family welcomed a beautiful baby girl with brown hair and big blue eyes. Betty Elizabeth was born in the family house in Burlington, North Carolina to Charlie Calvin Strickland and Alice Mae (Blackmon) Strickland. At a young age the Strickland family relocated to Fayettville, Carolina, where she attended school until the age of fourteen. Betty loved to play basketball and was very talented in the sport. At the age of fifteen Betty's mother passed away very unexpectedly. Betty had a very close and loving relationship with her mother and her loss deeply shaped who Betty was as a person. After her mother passing Betty had to grew up very quickly and help raise her younger brother.1958 she met and married Earl Gore. The Gore family moved to Oregon in 1968. Although this marriage ended in divorce this would allow her to meet the love of her life Acie Byrd. Betty was a hardworker and devoted to her five children. She was an amazing and loving mother who would do anything for her family. During her life she worked many jobs to help provide for her family, she worked in farming, hotel and motel maid, and was even a foreman of a lumber yard.
Betty was a Christian devoted follower of Jesus Christ. At a young age she was baptized in the Baptist Church in North Carolina.
Betty leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Calvin Strickland and Alice Mae (Blackmon) Strickland, her husband Acie Byrd.
Left to honor Betty's memory are her children, Barbara Gore and husband Jimmie Pratcher, Danny Gore, Betty Barker husband Robert, Janet Jones and husband Anthony, Alice Tankersley and husband Jimmy; grandchildren, Megan Tankersley, Timothy Oliver, John Oliver, Stacy Armstrong, Mary Beth, Tyler Buttler,Tara Buttler, Crystal Gore, Elizabeth Gore, Ladonna Gore, Michael Brantley, Calista Barker, Riley Barker, great grandchildren, Caden Buttler,Trinity Buttler, Evengeline Johnson, Daugherty Armstrong, Lillian Bjork; and a brother Randy Strickland.
Betty's family will be receiving friends 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday December 9, 2022, at Harmon County Funeral Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Harmon Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Hollis, Oklahoma.
The Byrd family has entrusted Harmon County Funeral Home with handling the arrangements.
