Obituary for Bette Churchwell
Bette M. Churchwell, 74, of Blair, passed away Friday, November 10th, 2006, at the Mangum Community Hospital.
Better was born November 10, 1932, in Altus, Oklahoma, to W.E. and Leora May (Robinson) Davis. She graduated from Altus High School and later graduated from WOSC where she earned her Associates Degree. At the age of 50, she went back to nursing school and earned degree as a Registered Nurse. Bette worked at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital, the Altus House Nursing Home, and worked in home health for several years before retiring.
Bette married W.R. "Ray" Churchwell October 8, 1950, in Altus and he preceded her in death July 4, 2003. She liked gardening and canning with her husband, loved to read, and enjoyed being helpful to her neighbors. Bette was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Blair.
She is survived by two sons, Randall Lee Churchwell and wife Mary of Joshua, Texas, and David Ray Churchwell and wife Caren of Mangum; one brother, James Davis and wife Char of Mesa, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Venita Davis of Altus, Wilma Jo Miner of Tulsa, Colleen Booker of Connell, Washington, and Karen Kistler and husband Bob of Tacoma, Washington; brothers-in-law, Richard Churchwell and friend Phyllis Wendt of Altus and Wesley Churchwell and wife Hermalee of Midwest City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Veronica Garcia and husband Michael, David Bohlander and wife Catherine Smith, Leah Churchwell, Daniel Bohlander, Logan Churchwell, Darlene Smith, and Wesley Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Garcia, Amanda Jackson, and Lynn-Holly Jackson. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Wayne Davis and Wesley Davis.
Funeral services for Bette Churchwell will be held 1:30 pm Tuesday, November 14, at the First Baptist Church in Blair with Reverend Randy Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
