Avery Lee Braziel, age 75, of Altus, passed away Friday afternoon, December 26, 2014, at English Village Manor, in Altus.
Mr. Braziel was born in Davidson, Oklahoma on September 27, 1939, to A.G. and Myrtle Lee (Cadell) Braziel. He graduated from Davidson High School in 1958. He then attended Draughn"s Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas where he studied business courses and cost accounting. He met his future wife, Jean Kaye Foster, while at Draughn"s. Avery entered the United States Army where he proudly served his country for the next three years with a two year assignment in Karlsruhe, Germany. Avery always remembered being on desk duty there on November 22, 1963, when word came through that President Kennedy had been assassinated. He had to awaken the captain and they went on alert with worries that the troops might be going to war. When he returned to the United States he lived in Altus. He and Jean Kaye Foster were married on October 23, 1965, at the First Baptist Church, in Altus, with Brother James Reed officiating. They spent the next forty-nine wonderful years together before his death. Avery transferred with Southwestern Investment Company to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1967, where he continued to work until 1977. In 1977, he moved his family back to Altus where he worked as a Vice President at First National Bank until February of 2005.
Preceded in death by his wife"s family members, Mrs. M.D. Mayrhofen, Lola Mayrhofen, Ruth (Foster) Pixley and husband Kenneth and his father-in-law, James Foster, he is survived by his wife, Jean, of the home; two daughters, Kelli Braziel Harris and husband Paul of Edmond, Oklahoma and Jaime Braziel of Frisco, Texas; two grandchildren, Haylee Harris and Jackson Harris of Edmond, Oklahoma; a cousin, Kenny Pixley of Granbury, Texas along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Avery Braziel will be at 2 p.m., Monday, December 29, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 4 until 5 p.m.
