Arthur King, Jr., age 87, of Altus, passed away Sunday morning, August 7, 2016, at his residence, west of Altus.
Mr. King was born in Clayton, Oklahoma on December 9, 1928, to Arthur Robert and Lucy Altha (Wiles) King. After attending school at Lona Valley, they moved to Jackson County in 1950. Drafted into the United States Army in 1951, Arthur was first assigned to Camp Rucker, in Alabama. Coming home on leave, Arthur married the love of his life, Neva Lou Williams, on June 14, 1951, and they spent the next 65 wonderful years together before his death. Back to Fort Rucker, Arthur was soon shipped to Germany for the Korean War. Returning to Altus, Arthur worked as a plumber for a few years until beginning a job with Altus-Lugert Irrigation District, where he served as a heavy equipment operator for twenty-three years. For a short time, Arthur worked for area farmers doing heavy equipment work, on their land. Arthur then began a job with Jackson County District 2 and worked for the next thirty-three years, retiring in 2013. Eating out, working in the yard, doing honey-do"s for Neva, playing his guitar and singing old Country and Western songs, quail hunting and watching western movies were some of the things that Arthur enjoyed.
Preceded in death by his parents, one brother, James King and two sisters, Opal Haughey and Louise Simmons, Arthur is survived by his wife, Neva Lou, of the home; three children, Diana Gillihan and husband Steve of Altus, Tim King and wife Robyn of Altus and Robin King, Sr., of Altus; six grandchildren, Joshua Jones and fianc"e Mitsi Myers of Montrose, Colorado, Angela Villarosa and husband Tim of Aurora, Colorado, Scott King and fianc"e Amanda Hanes of Frederick; Robin King, Jr. and wife Christina of Altus and Mandi Clear and husband Jason of Sayre; five great grandchildren, Brenna, Noah, Canyon, Camryn and Cooper along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Arthur King, Jr., will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Gregory A. Hawn and Brother Synott Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
