Annie Walters, 95, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 1995 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She was born on July4, 1899, at Humpherys, Indian Territory to D.D. and Louemma Adams. Annie married W.D. Smiley in 1919 and he preceded her in death. She married G. H. Walters in 1948 and he passed away in 1968.
Mrs Walters was a housewife and a longtime member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ. Annie loved flowers and gardening. She often gave homemade jams and jellies as gifts to her family. She was a wonderful cook. Annie Crocheted quite beautifully and as a result, all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren have lovely baby booties and hangers created by Grandma's hands.
Annie always looked forward to her birthday. every Fourth of July, all the family would gather at her house to celebrate not only Independence Day, but also, the life of Annie Walters.
Mrs Walters was a very active individual. She loved to travel and stayed involved with her family.
She rode in the 1994 Annual Christmas Parade with her grandson, Fire Chief Jack Smiley.
Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, William D. and Terry Smiley of Ft. Worth, Texas; and Jack and Velma Smiley of Martha; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jo and Richard Adams of Altus and Sina Lou Savage of Devine, Texas; as well as thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
