Dora Weddle
Annie EuDora (Hawkins) Weddle, 88, of Eldorado, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, April 2, 2013.
Dora was born on February 21, 1925, to Charlie and Sallie Bell (Richardson) Hawkins, in Harmon County. She was raised in Eldorado and graduated from Eldorado High School. On April 3, 1943, she married Ordrain "OE" Weddle, who had just signed with the Army Air Corp during WWII. After his brief time in the military they moved to Weatherford and attended SWOSU for a short time as one of the first couples on the GI Bill. They then returned home to Eldorado. This is when she became a true "farmer's wife" In addition to wheat and cattle, they were custom harvesters for 16 years, where she worked in the fields and prepared all the meals for the crews. She was active in SW Farm Women's Club for several years, serving as secretary/treasurer.
Dora was a member of the Au Corant Club in the 1950's, the Jackson County Democratic Women Club in the 60's and 70's. Dora was active for years as a member of the Eldorado Alumni Association, serving as secretary for 15 years. Dora owned and operated "Weddle's Dry Goods & Western Wear" store in Eldorado for five years. She sold Avon, worked with US Census, and was a teacher's aid at Eldorado School. Later, she worked for 13 years at the First State Bank, Eldorado. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing all the time for her four daughters when they were growing up. She was a huge sports fan, attending her girls and grandchildren's games and activities, rarely missing a chance to watch OU Sooners football or basketball.
A devoted member of the Eldorado Baptist Church her entire life, Dora taught Sunday School, and sang in the choir for many years. Dora was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many who will greatly miss her. She wore many hats for many different people throughout the years and wire them well. He good natured disposition and sense of humor made for lots of laughter and love throughout her life. There was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family and always made each one feel special.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Eura Wesley and Elna Stobbs; one brother, C. B. Harkins; her daughter, Janette Springs and a grandson, Jimmy Benson, she is survived by a son-in-law, Tims Springs of Eldorado; three daughters, Sherry Weddle of Eldorado, Ann Benson and husband Jim of Muskogee and Terri Keenum and husband Dave of Altus; eight grandchildren, Shelley Hurst of Eldorado, and fiancee David Johnson, Tracy Springs and ife Mae of Eldorado, Melisa Cunningham and husband Bill of Childress, Texas, Melinda Loughery of Midlothian, Texas, Shanna Blair and hesband Eugene of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Kyle Keenum and wife Nicole, Kodie Riley and husband Cody, all of Altus, Jamie Keenum and friend Cody Griffis of Willow; twelve great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Dora Weddle will be at 2:00 p. m., Friday, April 5, 2013, Eldorado, First Baptist Church with Pastor Pete Wylie officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Eldorado.
The family will greet friiends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, in Eldorado, on Thursday evening from 6:30 until 8 p.m.
