Obituary for Ancil Carruthers
Elder Ancil Carruthers was born to John and Molly Carruthers August 26, 1932. He was the youngest of four siblings.
Ancil was reared in Altus where he attended and graduated from Linclon High School.
At the age of thirteen, he experienced an awesome tough of God's Holy Spirit. In 1951 in the Church of God in Christ, he surrendered to the will and calling of God under the pastorship of Elder H.K. Neal. Shortly after receiving the gift of the Hold Ghost, he was called to the ministry. He served as youth minister and was very instrumental in working with the pastor in keeping the church aglow the spiritual activities.
On February 17, 1952, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Furlow. To this union six children were born. They are the parents of eight children. Their five sons are Ancil Jr. and wife Sheryl of Jax., Florida, John Stephen and wife Brenda, Clifton Earl, and Theophilus of Oklahoma City, and WeWayne Jones and wife Lois of Altus, Oklahoma; three daughters Verletta A. Morgan of Altus, Oklahoma, LaJune Garrison of New Orleans, of LA. and Petra M. Carruthers of Wichita, KS. Jeweling King is a niece raised as a daughter.
He attended Langston University then decided to attend Okmulgee Tech. where he became a watch and jewelry repairman.
He served on the Board of Directors for Community Action then became a credit counselor, was chairman of EEO, worked for Oklahoma housing authority in Oklahoma City, and he served as assistant pastor to Dr. Bobby Williams of New Jerusalem COGIC Oklahoma City.
In 1980, he felt the leading of God to return to Altus and become the founder and pastor of Holy Revival Center. He served as volunteer chaplin for Dept. of Corrections in Graite, Oklahoma. In Altus, he served on many committees for the good and betterment of the community. Everywhere he went he touched lives because of his love of people and devotion to God.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother sister, Fleeta Rihems , brothers Cephus and John Jr. He leaves to mourn his wife Dorothy, his children, 40 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 26 great great grandchildren 3 aunts, Ceaky Lewis of Oklahoma City, Dorothy and Lillie M. Jackson of Altus, and a host of nephews neices, cousins and friends.
