Agnes Louise Batton, age 69, formerly of Granite and Mangum, passed away Tuesday evening, November 25, 2008, at Hobart Living Center.
Agnes was born on November 3, 1939, in Charlottesville, Virginia to Hampton and Mary (Keyton) Batton. After spending forty-eight years in Virginia, she moved to Granite in 1987, to be near her family in Greer County. With her health beginning to fail, Agnes moved to Grace Living Center in 2002, where she was involved in many of the social activities. In October, she moved to Hobart Living Center where she lived until the time of her death. Going to church, playing bingo, dancing, eating (onion and tomato sandwiches were her favorite), showing off her family pictures to others and spending time with her family and friends were her favorite pastimes.
Preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James Batton, Homer Rollins and Bobby Rollins and three sisters, Frances Coleman, Helen Rollins and Mavis G. (Peanut) Posey, she is survived by three sisters, Mildred Marrin of Oregon, Rachel Ketchum of Granite and Margot Zimmerman of Arkansas; three brothers, Durwood Batton and wife Beverly of Virginia, Stanley Batton of Virginia and Clyde Batton of Virginia; two special brothers-in-law, Doug Posey and Johnny Ketchum along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Agnes Batton will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2008, at the Granite First Baptist Church with Rev. Ben VanVacter officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.
