ALLEN

Addie Mae Allen, age 85, of Mangum, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center.

Addie Mae was born in Hester, Oklahoma on July 1, 1927 to John T. and Grace Irene (Powell) Wilson. As a young child, Addie and her family moved to the Reed community, where she attended school. In grade school, Addie"s beautiful green eyes stole the heart of a classmate by the name of A.J. Allen Jr., who said it was love at first sight and on January 15, 1944, they would become husband and wife and would spend the next sixty-nine wonderful years together before her death. Addie was very involved with her children"s activities and those of the Reed schools, and she and A.J. were the class parents of the Reed High School class of 1965. In July of 1966 she and A.J. would move to Mangum where she worked at Lawrence"s, G.C. Graumann"s and later the Mangum Public Schools. Addie Mae worked as a teacher"s aide at Mangum from 1969 to 1993 where she was known best for being a school bus driver and making beautiful and highly requested bulletin boards, which she loved making for all the teachers. Addie Mae was wonderful mother, grandmother and played a big part in the raising of Jeff and Lisa. In her free time, Addie loved cooking, crossword puzzles, checkers and was known as a dominoes master.

Preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth "Buster" Allen; three siblings, Paul Wilson, Jerry Don Wilson and Ruth Bex, Addie is survived by her husband, A.J., of the home; two children, Larry (Pete) Allen and wife Kitty of Gallatin, Tennessee and Brenda Sowada and husband Paul of LaVernia, Texas; six grandchildren, Jeff Balentine, Sherri Allen Wiewel, Pam Allen McCaw, Lisa Balentine Fullenwider, Phillip Sowada and Paul Sowada Jr.; ten great grandchildren; four siblings, Henry Wilson, Barry Lynn Wilson, J.T. Wilson and Johnnie Faye Hill; one daughter-in-law, Janie Allen Buck; one close friend and care giver, Blanche Flores along with many more nieces, nephews, relatives and close friends.
