Obituary for Abraham Shadid
Abraham Shadid (Abe) passed away Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus, Oklahoma. He was born January 16, 1907 in Brinkman, Oklahoma to Elias Abraham Shadid and Nehama Tayar Shadid. Ave was a 1927 graduate of Mangum High School. He married Margaret Massad on April 10, 1947 in Vernon, Texas. He was co-owner and manger of the Powder Puff Shop and Miss Puff Boutique for 54 years until his retirement in 1997. He enlisted in the United States Army on July 25, 1942 and served in the European Theater during World War II until his discharge on November 20, 1945. He was a master sergeant and member of the 83rd Infantry Division in England, France, Belguim, Luxemburg, Holland and Germany, as he served in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central European Campaigns. During his tenure in the army, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, American Theater and EAME Ribbons, Workd War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation, and five Battle Stars. He was a veteran of both the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.
Abe was very involved in and managed the family oil and gas properties in Beckham and roger Mills Counties. He was a 65 year member of the Masonic Lodge, having been a member of the Mangum, Oklahoma and Altus, Oklahoma Lodges. He was a 40 year member of the India Temple Shrine of Oklahoma City, as well as a member of the Altus Shrine Club. He was also an active member of the American Legion, Veterans of Forgein Wars, and the Altus Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Altus, Oklahoma.
Abe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margaret, three brothers, Jack Shadid, Hoyt Shadid and Coy Shadid and one sister, Edna Shadid Dakil, He is survived by his brothers, Ned Shadid and Phillip Shadid of Altus, Oklahoma; his sister Olga Shadid of Edmond, Oklahoma and his sisters-in-law, Jimmie Shadid of Edmond, Oklahoma and Lila Shadid of Altus, Oklahoma; a son Jay Douglas Shadid of Panhandle Texas and his wife Patrice; a son Steven Ellis Shadid of Altus, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Toni Nicole Battle and her husband, Christian of Panhandle, Texas; Carrie Len Smith and her husband, John Tom of Guthrie, Texas; Matthew Brady Shad and his wife, Kary Lee of Panhandle, Texas; Andrew Corby Shadid of Panhandle, Texas; two great grandchildren, Jay Patrick Shadid and Ethan Parker Shadid of Panhandle, Texas.
Abe will lovingly be remembered by many nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
