Obituary for Hazel Marzelle Matthews
Marzelle Matthews, age 72, of Mangum, passed away Sunday evening, August 27, 2017, at Integris Baptist Medical Center, in Oklahoma City.
Mrs. Matthews was born in Richmond, California on July 4, 1945, to Luther and Billie Sutherland. She married the love of her life, Doc Matthews, on September 9, 1965, in Mangum, Oklahoma. To this union two wonderful daughters were born. Marzelle taught for 29 years in the Mangum School System. She was an avid gardener and loved sharing her vegetables with others. She also enjoyed making t shirt and throw blankets. The light of her life was her family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, working on the farm, and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, and one grandson " Kody Redden.
Survivors include her husband Doc Matthews; daughter, Jill Haddon and husband John of Anadarko, daughter, Lori Redden and husband Mike of Altus; grandchildren, Brady Matthews, Kade Redden, Ryan Haddon, Joe Haddon and Branson Haddon; sister, Sylvia Roberts and husband Dave; brothers Wayne Carpenter and wife Wanda, Bud Sutherland and wife Dorothy, Joe Carpenter and wife Renee. Along with several close friends.
Funeral services for Marzelle Matthews will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at the Mangum First Baptist Church with Pastor Casey Paxton officiating. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, of Mangum.
