THOMASON

Frances “Jean” Thomason, age 87, of Big Spring, Texas, formerly of Mangum and Altus, passed away at her residence on Monday, June18, 2012, in Big Spring.
Mrs. Thomason was born on August 29, 1924, to Walter and Ruth (Erwin) Duncan, at McQueen, Oklahoma. She graduated from Reed High School in 1942. She attended Mangum Junior College and later married the love of her life, J.T. Thomason on September 13, 1942 in Russell, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on October 7, 2004, after sixty-two wonderful years of marriage.
Shortly after their marriage, J.T. joined the army, to serve his country in WWII. Jean moved to Amarillo and worked at Pantex, assembling bombs, for the war effort, until J.T. returned home. They then moved and settled in Magnum until 1990, at which time they moved to Altus. They farmed and ranched in the area until their retirement. Jean worked many years at the Mangum Hospital in the lab, X-ray and EKG departments. Her greatest memory of working in the medical field was assisting with the first Polio vaccine clinic. She has often marveled at all the changes technology and science brought to healthcare during her career and after. It was her influence that started many young people into the healthcare professions, including some family members.
Jean moved to Big Spring in January, 2005, after J.T.’s death. A long-time member of the Church of Christ, she was currently attending the 14th and Main Church of Christ, where she was active in the Ladies Bible Class. Her hobbies thru the years included Bible studies, water skiing, playing bridge, other card games, reading and traveling with family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.T.; son, David Thomason; sister, Colleen Lowry; nephew, Rodney Lowry; niece, Gayla Lowry and great niece, Tammy D. Ream.
Jean is survived by nephews, David Martin of Austin and Carlos Thomason of Altus; nieces, Carolyn Fowble and husband Bill; Mertie Edwards and husband Syndey, all of Altus; Tricia McCain of Colorado City and Shirleen Brown of Big Spring; Great nephews, Larry Lowry of Lewisville, David
Brown of Spring, J.W. Heath of Midland, Jeremy Thomason, Kevin Thomason of Oklahoma, Doug Edwards and Heath Edwards; great nieces, Dana Fowble of Virginia and Tina Fowble of Norman, Oklahoma; great, great nephew, Forrest Ream and great, great niece Reagan Ream, both of Midland. She is also survived by many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Westview Boys Home, P.O. Box 553, Hollis, OK 73550 or the Tammy D. Ream Memorial Scholarship for Physician Assistants, c/o TX. Tech University Health Science Center PA Program, 3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX 79705.
Graveside services for Jean Thomason will be Friday morning at 10 a.m., June 22, 2012, at Riverside Cemetery, in Mangum, with Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
